— About CRE
CRE — Commercial Restoration Environmental — is a commercial abatement and environmental remediation contractor serving New York City and the Tri-State area. We handle the work that stops a renovation, a demolition or a lease-up in its tracks: asbestos in old floor tile and pipe insulation, lead paint in a pre-war loft, mold behind a wall after a water event, regulated materials nobody wants to put a name on.
New York’s rules are tight for good reason. Before an owner or GC can disturb suspect material, the city expects a survey, a licensed contractor, DEP notification, independent air monitoring and paperwork that holds up at closeout. We run that sequence end to end, so your schedule, your permits and your liability stay protected.
Our team brings 50+ years of restoration industry experience, 24/7 emergency response and a documentation standard built for general contractors, property managers, architects, insurers and public agencies.
— What We Do
Containment, removal and clearance of friable and non-friable asbestos in commercial buildings — floor tile and mastic, pipe insulation, ceilings, fireproofing. We coordinate surveys, DEP filings and independent air monitoring. If a survey hasn't ruled it out, we treat it as asbestos.
Lead hazard removal and encapsulation in pre-1978 commercial buildings, schools and child-occupied facilities, with containment, HEPA cleanup and clearance testing. Work follows OSHA requirements and EPA lead-safe rules where they apply.
Selective and full interior demolition: office strip-outs, gut renovations and pre-renovation teardowns. We come in before your GC, with the hazardous-materials question already answered, and leave a clean, safe site.
PCBs, mercury-containing equipment, contaminated soil and other regulated materials. Proper handling, manifest documentation and licensed transport to permitted disposal on every job.
Commercial-scale mold remediation after water events or chronic moisture, performed under a protocol from an independent licensed mold assessor. Full containment, HEPA air scrubbing and post-remediation verification.
Pre-project environmental review, regulatory pathway planning, permit and filing coordination and closeout documentation. We work with architects, GCs and project managers from day one.
— NYC Commercial Abatement Contractor
We don’t take residential work. Every project we accept is regulated, permitted and documented to the letter.
Abatement and demolition scopes completed ahead of your build-out schedule.
NYC compliance for pre-renovation work and post-incident response.
Due-diligence support, pre-demolition scopes and full abatement packages.
We read the specification and coordinate with the design team, so abatement doesn't slow your timeline.
Post-loss environmental work, documented for the claim file, alongside restoration firms.
— Our Process
A DEP-certified asbestos investigator surveys the work area, so every regulated material is identified before a single wall comes down. Findings go into the DEP assessment report (ACP-5).
We prepare the abatement scope, handle the DEP asbestos project notification (ACP-7) and coordinate permits and the independent air-monitoring plan with your GC and design team.
Full containment, negative air pressure and HEPA filtration. Licensed crews remove and package material; waste is manifested and taken to permitted disposal.
An independent project monitor performs clearance air monitoring. DEP completion filings, waste manifests, lab reports and compliance documents are delivered to your project file.
— Why Choose CRE
Every demolition site is treated as hazardous until proven otherwise. No surprises mid-project.
From survey through closeout, we manage the abatement scope, the filings and the licensed specialists involved — and we answer for the result.
Manifests, air-clearance results and filings are delivered complete, so your closeout isn't held hostage.
Post-loss environmental work, documented for the claim file, alongside restoration firms.
— Government & Institutional Work
— Our Process
We work across all five boroughs, Long Island, Westchester and Northern New Jersey, with emergency response available 24/7.
Rules change at the city line. Inside New York City, DEP’s Asbestos Control Program governs asbestos projects; outside it, New York State Department of Labor rules apply. We work to whichever standard governs your site.
— Our Process
Yes. Before work that could disturb building materials, a DEP-certified asbestos investigator has to determine whether asbestos is present. Skipping the survey, or not retaining a licensed contractor to file the project notification, can bring DEP penalties of $1,200 to $10,000 per infraction. We coordinate the survey as the first step of every asbestos scope.
An independent project monitor — never the abatement contractor. DEP requires the monitor who prepares the final report to be independent of the contractor, and clearance air monitoring must pass before the work area can be reoccupied. We coordinate monitoring with your GC so clearance doesn’t become a scheduling bottleneck.
DEP requires advance notification before abatement begins — at least seven days under DEP’s guidance — and larger projects can carry longer notice periods under state rules. We work backward from your GC’s start date so abatement is complete before demolition or construction begins.
Cost depends on the type and quantity of material, access and containment requirements, work hours (many NYC buildings restrict work to nights and weekends), disposal and air monitoring. We provide written quotes after a site walk or a review of your survey and scope.
